The move follows a strategic security appraisal conducted by CP Ibrahim Bakori in Kano, at the Nigeria Police Academy in Wudil.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Abdullahi Kiyawa, police spokesperson in Kano, said the exercise was carried out in line with the inspector-general of police’s (IGP) ‘Handshake Patrol’ initiative.

Bakori met with Patrick Atayero, Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy, to assess security arrangements at the institution.

According to the statement, the police commissioner inspected perimeter security, access control measures and emergency response mechanisms at the academy.

The two officers also discussed intelligence sharing, joint security exercises and collaboration between the academy and the state command.

Bakori commended Atayero for maintaining “a high standard of discipline, professionalism, and internal security” at the academy.

Following the appraisal, Bakori led an operational tour of the Kano-Maiduguri road and the Kano-Jigawa border corridor to strengthen the implementation of the ‘Handshake Patrol’ strategy.

The police said the initiative is an intelligence-driven operational framework designed to improve collaboration between neighbouring state commands, restrict criminals’ movement across state boundaries and enhance coordinated responses to security threats.

Bakori directed officers to strengthen surveillance and maintain rapid response capabilities along the corridor, noting that the patrols would be sustained and reviewed periodically based on security assessments.

The Kano police command said it remains committed to intelligence-led and technology-driven policing in line with the vision of IGP Tunji Disu.

The command urged residents to report suspicious movements, persons or objects to the nearest police formation or through its emergency lines.
