According to Trump, the meeting is aimed at easing tensions after renewed hostilities threatened a fragile ceasefire. The White House said senior US envoys are expected to participate in the negotiations.
However, Iranian officials have disputed Trump’s claim, insisting that no talks have been scheduled, casting uncertainty over whether the meeting will go ahead.
The proposed negotiations come after US strikes on Iranian targets and retaliatory missile and drone attacks by Iran on American military facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait, raising concerns over regional stability and the security of the Strait of Hormuz.
