The Senate has adopted manual voting for the consideration of the State Police Bill after its electronic voting device developed a technical fault.
The decision followed concerns that some senators could be disenfranchised if the chamber proceeded with the faulty device.
Under the new arrangement, each senator will stand up, announce his or her name, and openly state his or her position on the proposed state police framework.
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele moved the motion for the adoption of manual voting, while Abba Moro, minority leader, seconded the motion.

Lawmakers said the procedure would ensure that no senator is excluded from the voting process while allowing constituents to know the position taken by their representatives on the proposed constitutional amendment.
The Senate has now commenced the voting process and it is currently ongoing.
