Former Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado, has leveled serious allegations against former Kano State Governor and leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, accusing him of allegedly diverting billions of naira from the state treasury for personal use.

The allegations have stirred fresh political tension in Kano, with growing reactions from supporters and critics of the former governor.
Muhyi made the claims during a public address captured in a video that has since circulated widely on social media.
In the video sighted by POLITICS NIGERIA, he alleged that large sums of money were withdrawn from government coffers and linked directly to expenditures made on behalf of Kwankwaso.
He also challenged the former governor to seek legal redress if the allegations were false.
“I challenge you to take me to court if what I said you have siphoned from Kano’s treasury is not true,” Muhyi said.
According to Muhyi, one of the most significant withdrawals allegedly involved N1 billion said to have been released in December 2023 for the construction of a personal residence. He did not provide details on the location of the property or whether it referred to the residence currently occupied by the former governor.
The former anti-graft chairman further alleged that another N525 million was released for the construction of an office around the same period.
He also claimed that over N1.2 billion was allegedly spent on the purchase of official vehicles, alongside an additional N400 million for related expenses.

Muhyi did not stop there. He alleged that in June 2024, another N100.8 million was withdrawn for medical expenses linked to the former governor. He also claimed that a separate N510.213 million was allocated for holiday-related spending.
The former commission chairman suggested that the figures he disclosed were only a fraction of what he claimed to know. He hinted at more revelations in the coming days regarding what he described as the misuse of public funds.
The allegations have, however, remained unproven.
As of the time of filing this report, no documentary evidence has been publicly presented by Muhyi to back the claims. Also, no court ruling or official report from any anti-corruption agency has established wrongdoing against Kwankwaso over the allegations.
Meanwhile, the Kwankwasiyya Movement has acknowledged the allegations and says it is reviewing the claims.
Reacting to the development, Habibu Muhammad Sale Mailemo, spokesperson of the movement, said the group was studying the matter and would respond accordingly.
He stated that legal action against Muhyi was among the options being considered. Kwankwaso himself has yet to personally address the allegations.
