Former APC chieftain seeks Trump’s intervention over ADC’s deregistration

A former chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has urged U.S. President Donald Trump and the international community to intervene in the planned deregistration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following a recent court ruling.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, Frank warned that any move to eliminate major opposition parties could trigger a national crisis and erode Nigeria’s democratic foundations.

The former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC described the development as a direct threat to multi-party democracy.

He alleged that the court ruling is part of a broader strategy to weaken opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Frank raised serious questions about the circumstances surrounding the judgment, describing it as sudden, suspicious, and inconsistent with due process.

“The judgment came suddenly without prior notice to the parties involved.

“From the information available to us, it appeared that the judgment had been prepared elsewhere and simply delivered by the court. Nobody knew about it. There was no information and no briefing, even to the lawyers representing the parties,” Frank said.

He further alleged that the ruling was orchestrated to achieve a predetermined political outcome.

“From the information we received, the judgment was written elsewhere and handed to the judge. The Office of the Attorney-General wrote the script and the judge merely played out that script,” he claimed.

Frank called on President Trump and the international community to urgently step in to protect Nigeria’s multi-party democracy.
